Sparkle is the beautiful and talented singer from Chicago's west side with a new album,
"Told You So", on the Motown label. Sparkle's performances are so spirited and resonant, you wonder, where does she get it? Sparkle
tells us that the emotion and inspirations "were drawn from friends and some of my experiences, but these are really universal themes. We've all been there, on one level or
another." The multitalented Sparkle co-wrote five of the songs on this outstanding album. Sparkle pours heart and emotion onto paper and into her voice, the result... straight up hits, like
"It's A Fact," the first single from the album. You know you're with a Motown great when you hear, "Lovin' a
Man", Sparkle explains the "what and the why" a woman does the things she does for her man. About midway through the album, Sparkle shows another dimension, in the fun and
up tempo "Good life"... bling bling isn't everything, but it ain't all bad either! Sparkle makes it plain in the sensuous
"All I Want", then follows on with "Somebody Else", a sweet voiced testimony that she knows when you're giving it to somebody else. As if we need more evidence of her talent and range the songs
"Everything" and "Games" show her expressing gratitude and attitude respectively. The album finishes strong, with a familiar title,
"Never Can Say Goodbye", but this tune is uniquely Sparkle!This album expresses the best of the Motown legacy. Sparkle's SUPER vocals, strong production by Steve "Stone" Huff and great songs and music, make for a winning combination in "Told You So". |
